Internet Service Quality Measurement - ISQM

Internet Service Quality Measurement - ISQM

ISQM service collects QoS and network performance parameters for assessing the quality of Internet access as perceived by the user. The purpose of the parameters is to inform the operator about the transmission performance of the delivered internet access service based on ETSI EG 202 057-4 document.

In scope of ISQM service, operator defines a test scenario which has a login operation to validate the health of AAA or DHCP, upload & download tests to measure the throughput rates of the line and IP performance test to assess the network quality level. During all these steps, probe collects the quality metrics for the specified network area between the points test performed. After defined scenarios are completed, probe sends the captured results to the central management system through the probe controller for further analysis. If any performance violation is detected regarding to the alarm policy, for example Download Speed is lower than expected value or packet loss ratio is greater than the specified value, an alarm is raised to notify authorized people.

QoS parameters for Internet access

• Login time and AAA availability

• Successful log-in ratio

• Data transmission speed achieved

• Unsuccessful data transmissions ratio

• IP Performance Metrics:

o Delay (one way transmission time)

o Jitter

o Packet Loss

o Reordering ratio

Internet Service Quality Measurement module also includes service performance tests such as HTTP and DNS through the subscriber line. HTTP and DNS service availabilities and response times are reported.
